Professor Kevin Jameson appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)

Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton welcomes Kevin Jameson as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

I am very pleased to announce that, following an extensive search, Professor Kevin Jameson has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). He is currently acting in the role ad interim, having served in a number of roles at Macquarie University since joining us full time in 2011.

Professor Jameson served as Head of the Department of Applied Finance and Actuarial Studies, and Director of the Macquarie University Applied Finance Centre, before his appointment as Acting Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics last year. He has also held a number of roles at the Macquarie University Applied Finance Centre since 1994.

Prior to joining Macquarie University, Professor Jameson had extensive experience in industry in Australia, Asia and the UK, including a number of senior leadership roles. He has been the Australian Head of Capital Markets (based in Sydney), Country Head for Japan and Regional Head of Treasury and Capital Markets for Asia (based in Tokyo) and Global Managing Director of Capital Markets (based in London) for a large UK banking and investment banking group.

As Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Jameson has provided clear leadership during a transitional period for the portfolio and its staff. His management of the alignment of the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students & Registrar) portfolio earlier in the year, and the appointment of two new Pro Vice-Chancellors ad interim to help administer the enlarged academic portfolio, provided stability and clarity for staff and students throughout. Our work to help address the nature and size of the University as laid out in the strategic framework, Our University: A Framing of Futures, is progressing in a thorough and thoughtful way. I am pleased that this will continue without disruption following his appointment.

At the close of the search for this important role, the selection panel had both the luxury and difficulty of choosing from a field of excellent candidates. Professor Jameson has developed strong relationships with the Academic Senate, Executive Deans and leaders within the Faculties; I am delighted that we have been able to find the requisite skills, experience and expertise from within the University’s own leadership ranks, and that we are able to appoint a member of our staff to this important position.

I look forward to continuing to work alongside him.
