New policy: Honorary Academic Titles

New policy: Honorary Academic Titles

As of this month, the new Honorary Academic Titles Policy, Schedule and Procedure is in effect and has replaced the Honorary, Visiting and Clinical Appointments Policy.

This policy applies to conferral of honorary academic titles to individuals who collaborate with Macquarie in teaching and/or research. The aim is to recognise these individuals and establish formal academic associations with them.

The new policy redefines categories of honorary academic titles at Macquarie, and clarifies their use and conditions. The purpose of the changes is to facilitate greater collaboration and exchange of knowledge and expertise with other universities, research organisations and industry – particularly in relation to the medical enterprise.

The following honorary academic titles are covered by the new policy:

  • Honorary – current or retired academics from other universities, and retired Macquarie academics
  • Adjunct – industry professionals
  • Visiting – academics on short-term visits to Macquarie
  • Clinical – accredited allied health professionals
  • Conjoint – individuals employed by organisations formally affiliated with Macquarie
