Jo Hatton is Manager of Workplace Equity and Diversity – a new role that sees her leading a team within Human Resources driving policies and initiatives to help the University achieve its workplace diversity goals.  A similar team has been created within Campus Life, to provide support for student related equity and diversity initiatives.

I’ve been at Macquarie for…
A little over three years.

In a nutshell, my job is to…
Lead the Workplace Equity and Diversity team in HR. We support the University to create a positive, inclusive and respectful work environment where a diversity of perspectives, talents and experiences is valued and embraced.

The top three things on my to-do list today are:
1) Attend a forum on addressing the gender pay gap.
2) Discuss progress on implementation of our Disability Action Plan.
3) Meet with HR colleagues to discuss age diversity in the workplace.

If I could do any other job at Macquarie, it would be…
A researcher in cognitive and brain sciences. I’m fascinated by how the brain and mind work and the exciting discoveries in this field of research.

Name a Macquarie staff member that impressed you last week…
Fiona Cross from HR’s Organisation Development team. Her passion and drive helped create an engaging program of events for Wellbeing Week.

I get my campus coffee fix from …
Piccolo Me at the Hearing Hub.

Outside work, you’ll often find me…
Practising and teaching yoga and mindfulness.

I’m really looking forward to….
A reunion in Ubud, Bali in early October with one of my closest friends. I’m counting the sleeps!

The most amazing place I’ve ever visited is…
Nepal. Trekking and staying in villages in the Solukhumbu region, experiencing the culture and meeting wonderful people is an experience I’ll never forget. I’ve been there twice and hope to return someday.

If I could have dinner with anyone (living or dead) it would be…
Morgan Freeman, because he’s an amazing actor and a brilliant storyteller, and I love the sound of his voice!

The last great book I read was…
‘All the Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr.
