60 seconds with… Nicholas Commins

As a Student Advocacy and Support Adviser, Nicholas Commins spends his days giving advice on anything from discipline procedures to student visas. He took a quick break from his busy day to answer our questions.

I’ve been at Macquarie for…
Seven years.

In a nutshell, my job is to…
Provide students with independent advice regarding the University’s rules and procedures.

The top three things on my to-do list today are…
1) Survive
2) Attend to scheduled client appointments, attend to unscheduled client appointments, read an impossible number of emails
3) Solve ‘the everything’

If I could do any other job at Macquarie, it would be…
Master of Ceremonies; or the newly envisaged role of ‘Director of Coffee Sampling and Procurement’.

Name a Macquarie staff member that impressed you recently…
Kelly Piper in the Disability Service – a demonstration in dedication to her work, an endless supply of compassion, mixed with pure professionalism when it comes to the University’s best practice and policy.

I get my campus coffee fix from…
Taste Baguette– the F1 team of coffee production.

If I could change anything about Macquarie it would be…
Setting reasonable expectations for all members of the University community through clear communication.

Outside work, you’ll often find me…
Supporting fledgling groups trying to make it big in eSports.

The most amazing place I’ve ever visited is…
Yosemite National Park.

In 10 years from now, I hope to be…
Augmented with robotics and miniature supercomputers.
